“Seriously?” she asked happily. Her voice was a little too loud. Felix looked at us.
“Seriously. Now shh,” Edward said angrily. Max nodded and looked at me.
“Forever?” she asked quietly. I nodded. “Who’s going to do it and where?” she asked eagerly. I looked over at her and shrugged. She looked sad and then nodded.
“Max, this…” Felix opened a door. We stepped through.
“We need to speak to Aro, immediately Demetri.” Another vampire looked at us, from Alice to Edward to Bella, he looked shocked, and then to me. His eyes almost popped out of his head. Then he saw Max. He grinned.
“She’s mine. I think I’ll make her a vampire. She looks…” I snarled. He grinned and looked at me.
“What, is she yours?” I was motionless. I wasn’t sure whether to tell him or not, so I was quiet. He just looked at me.
“Well, can we go through?” Felix asked, kind of irritated. Demetri looked at us and nodded. He followed behind us. It was dark too, but we could all see in the dark. Edward was holding Bella closely. Alice was silent. She grinned and looked at Edward. He sighed and nodded.
“Here we are.” Felix opened a set of huge doors.
“Edward, Alice, Bella!” he exclaimed excitedly. They looked at him.
“Aro,” Edward said. I looked at him and he was studying me.
“Who’s this?” he asked. Then he looked back to Bella.
“You are one of us! How exciting! What can you do?” he asked. She shrugged.
“I’m not sure. We still haven’t figured out if I have anything special or not.” I nodded. He looked back to me.
“Who is this?” he asked again.
“This is Fang,” Edward said calmly. Aro smiled.
“Interesting name…for a vampire.” He looked at Max and he stopped. His nose twitched and he smiled.
“She smells…and looks…” Felix nodded and Aro gestured for Max to step forward. Edward shook his head so Aro gave up.
“Sir, she knows,” Felix said. I snarled.
“She does?” he asked. “We can’t have humans knowing anything about us. So we have two options…what will you choose?” he asked, directing his question to Edward. He sighed.
“We’ll do what has to be done. We are going to change her.” Aro nodded, but Demetri snarled.
“How do we know they aren’t lying?” he asked. Aro pointed to Bella.
“They changed Bella. Besides, you don’t really want to kill her, do you?” Demetri shook his head.
“Well, we should change her and have her work her. Live here.” Max looked up.
“No thanks,” she mumbled. Demetri glared at her.
“Why you little—” he jumped at her. I knocked him off of her. He was close to biting her. Edward shook his head at me.
“Get her out of here, now!” he said firmly. I nodded and I picked Max up. Aro glared at Demetri and Felix.
“At ease!” he shouted as I was running out the door. Max was holding back tears.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” I asked. She looked at me and smiled.
“You called me baby,” she said quietly. I nodded and I ran through the door. We were in the bright room again. I looked at her.
“Why are you crying?” I asked. I smelled something. Oh no!
“My arm…” she whispered. I looked at her arm. Her bones in her left arm had snapped in half and they were sticking out. I ran out the back doors. She was looking at me.
“Are you okay?” I asked. We ran to a back alley. She nodded.
“What about you? How are you holding through?” she asked. I shrugged.
“I’m good. Alice, Edward, and Bella will be here as soon as possible.” Max nodded.
“Well, we just wait until then?” she asked. I nodded.
“Okay, well, we had two options. One, kill her. Two, turn her into a vampire.” I looked at Edward.
“No. We can’t. We can’t kill her either. What are we going to do?” I asked. He sighed.
“Well, there’s only one thing to do.” I nodded, and Max looked at her arm. Edward winced.
“Right now, she needs to be taken to the ER,” Bella said warily. I nodded and picked her up.
  “Let’s go,” I said.

“She’s waking up from her surgery now…I have a few questions for you. For one, she has wings—” the doctor said. He had a heavy Italian accent.
“Yes,” I interrupted. “She’s 2% avian hybrid. She has an air sac, so if you can hear her breath in her stomach, that’s why. Her heart beats faster than a normal human, so if it’s really fast, that’s normal.” He looked at me funny.
“Can you come talk back here so you can explain all of this?” he asked gesturing for the rooms.
“Um…” I looked at Edward and he nodded slightly. “Sure,” I said walking back with him.
“Fang!” Max said once we walked in the room. “I thought you had left me here!” she said hugging me tightly. I shook my head.
“Babe, I would never leave you. I thought I told you that,” I said. The doctor looked at me.
“Okay, so is everything normal?” he asked showing me some papers. I grinned and nodded.
“Yep…she’s fine,” I said. I looked at Max.
“Okay. Well, then here you go.” He handed me the release forms. “She wouldn’t let me cast her arm, so make sure to not let it out of the brace,” he said. She nodded and looked at me.
“Let’s get out of here,” I mumbled. She smiled and nodded.
“What about…Dad?” she asked. I sighed.
“We’ll get Edward or someone to make sure you get back safely,” I said quietly. She sighed and nodded.
“No one can see you,” she said. I nodded, and we walked where Edward, Bella, and Alice were sitting.
“So, how are we going to explain this one?” Edward asked. Max grinned.
“I was really bored, so I thought of a story. I couldn’t find them, so I fell, broke my arm, and you guys found me and took me to the ER…or I could say someone did. Whoever brings me.” Edward grinned.
“Damn Fang. She’s better at coming up with stories than you are,” he said. I nodded.
“She used to have to do it all the time,” I pointed out. He nodded.
“Let’s go,” Alice said. “They’re really worried about her.” We nodded and walked out.

“Bye Max. You take care of yourself. Don’t break the other one,” Edward said as he was leaving the hotel the flock was staying in. I can just imagine the flock’s reaction around him, but oh well. He ran over to me.
“Now that Max is safe, let’s go home,” Alice said. I looked at her and nodded.
“Okay,” I said. I looked up at the window, and I saw Max looking out. Angel ran out and looked too. She waved and mouthed something. Then, the entire flock, Tyson, Ella, and the parents all crowded around the window. Shit!
                                                    Max’s POV
I watched Fang as he walked off. I couldn’t help it! Angel ran up to the window. I tried to make it look like I was just looking at the scenery, but my guess was she was reading my mind.
“Bye Fang,” she said waving. I shot my head around to look at her.
“Angel, no!” I whispered sternly, but it was too late. Everyone in the room crowded around. Christiana cried…tears of joy.
“My baby is alive!” she squealed. They all ran out the door. Everyone who knew he was alive stayed in.
“Shit! No, no, no!” I screamed. No one but Kyra, me, and Angel knew what his reasoning was for not being at home. I looked out the window and opened it.
“Fang, you have to run!” I screamed. He looked at me and nodded.
“Gotcha,” he said. They all ran off, but not as fast as possible. By the time the adults were out there, they were out of sight.
“Good save Max,” Kyra said. Angel nodded.
“Sorry,” she said sweetly. I sighed.
“Just don’t mention he’s alive again. We’ll make it seem like they were hallucinating it, got it?” I said sternly to everyone else. They all nodded and the adults came back in.
“He was…gone. Why would Fang runaway like this?” Christiana asked. I looked at her and sighed.
“None of us saw anyone. Are you sure you weren’t just imagining it?” I asked. She looked at everyone.
“No one saw him?” she asked. We all shook our heads.
   “Nope.” Mom glared at me.
“Max, if you are trying to keep your boyfriend out of trouble, this isn’t the time. He has been gone over a month! We saw him, and I got out there first. I saw him run off. Now you better start explaining…now!” she said. I looked at her with my eyes open wide in shock.
“You…saw…no. He wasn’t there. Mom, what?” I said. No! She can’t know! Dad looked at her.
“What do you mean boyfriend?” he asked. Christiana gawked at me. Frank looked happy, sad, and confused all at once!
“He was my…well, not technically,” I said. Angel burst out laughing.
“Okay. So two people tell each other they’re in love, but they aren’t technically dating?” Iggy asked. I glared at him.
“Shut up!” I yelled. Dad glared at me.
“Okay. Max, let’s start from the beginning. Tell, now.” I looked at him.
“I can’t,” I whispered. Frank looked at me.
   “Is he alive?” he insisted.
“I can’t say,” I whispered again. Mom glared at me.
“Why didn’t he come home?” she asked.
“I can’t tell you,” I said firmly. Christiana stared at me.
“Max, our son has been gone over a month, and you told us he was dead. He’s not, and he didn’t come home. Max, you better quit protecting him or you will be the one needing protection!” she said angrily. I understand that.
“I can’t tell you anything!” I screamed. I ran out. God, where was Fang when you really need him?
